Blue Mountain Resort in Collingwood and Grove Park Home in Barrie recently received Employer Champion Awards from the Provincial Partnership Council for providing local high school students with valuable work experience including career talks, classroom visits, cooperative education and Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) placements. The awards were presented at the Ontario Cooperative Education Association (OCEA)'s symposium in October. Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) students in cooperative education and SHSM programs have been welcomed by the above employers, and co-op teachers Kathy Lemon (Collingwood Collegiate Institute) and Tara Grigoriadis (Eastview Secondary School) were also recognized for their nominations and work with Blue Mountain and Grove Park Home respectively.
“The Employer Champion Awards acknowledge the important contributions of local employers to our student success programs,” says Tracy McPhail, Principal of Student Success, SCDSB. “These employers have shown an outstanding commitment to providing meaningful work experiences for high school students in their communities.”
In the SCDSB, 94 per cent of students are successful in all of their courses when they are participating in the SHSM program.
