School Year Calendar
To plan ahead for next year, you can view the 2015-16 school year calendar. The first day of school is Tuesday, September 8. The first day for all Junior Kindergarten students is Thursday, September 10. The first day for the Modified School Year Calendar at Ernest Cumberland ES is Monday, August 24.

Report Cards
Elementary school report cards will go home before the last day of school. Secondary school students should check with their school find out when to pick up their report cards (secondary school offices close after July 3).

Summer School
Registration is still available for the SCDSB’s summer school courses. Students in grades 7 to 12 can register for credit courses, upgrades, numeracy prep, co-op, travel opportunities and leadership camp offerings. Summer school programs are offered throughout July and August. The travel courses are offered during July only. Details, locations and registration information can be found on The Learning Centres website.
 
Transcript Requests
Public secondary school transcript request forms, information and FAQs are available on our website. During the summer when secondary schools are closed (July 6 to August 28), transcripts can be requested by emailing your completed form to transcripts@scdsb.on.ca.
 
2015-16 Registration for New Elementary Students
Registrations for new public elementary students not yet registered for next school year will be accepted at the SCDSB’s Education Centre in Midhurst from July 6 until August 28, while school offices are closed. Please call 705-734-6363 x11750 to schedule an appointment to register in person at the Education Centre. Starting August 31, please contact your home school to register as school offices will re-open that week.

All registrations for secondary school students will be completed at the secondary school your teen will attend in September. Contact the school directly to make arrangements for registration and consultation with the school guidance department. Please note that secondary school offices will be closed starting July 6 and will re-open on August 31.
 
New to Canada?
If you have recently arrived in Canada and this is the first elementary or secondary school your child will be attending in Canada, please contact the SCDSB’s Newcomer Welcome Centre. The Newcomer Welcome Centre is located in Barrie at the Bayfield Mall, 320 Bayfield Street.
 
First Rider Program taking place in August to help first time JK/SK/Primary bus riders
The Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium (SCSTC) offers a free First Rider Program for first-time school bus riders, which includes a ride on a school bus. This safety program is provided by the SCSTC, in partnership with school bus operators, to educate students and their families of the rules and responsibilities on and around the school bus. Sessions will take place in late August and early September across Simcoe County. Parents/guardians and their children attending any school in Simcoe County may attend any of the sessions. Summer Construction Projects
Over the summer, SCDSB Design and Construction staff will be busy with various construction projects including three new elementary schools, two new high schools and various school additions, upgrades and renovations.
 
A major addition and renovation project is taking place in Victoria Harbour to create Tay Shores Public School, and a replacement school is being built at Cumberland Beach for the new consolidated school. Both are planned to open in September 2016.
 
The site is being prepared for construction of the new Alcona South Public School, which is expected to open in fall 2016. Construction is progressing at Chris Hadfield Public School in Bradford and the school is expected to be ready in December 2015.
 
Orillia Secondary School construction is ongoing and the school is scheduled for occupancy in winter 2016. The new south Barrie Secondary School is being planned as SCDSB staff work through the site plan process with the City of Barrie. The new North Simcoe Secondary School project is currently exploring options via the Design Committee.
 
In total, over 100 construction projects of various sizes and complexities are currently, or will be taking place across Simcoe County schools and facilities.
 
Homework Help available this summer
Homework Help's Ask a Tutor chat service will be open for the month of July. Every Monday to Thursday, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., Ontario-certified math teachers will be available online to help grade 7 to 10 students with their math questions. This service is available from July 2 to 30.
 
SCDSB Education Centre Hours
For general inquiries over the summer months, please contact Reception at the SCDSB Education Centre at 705-728-7570. Please note, summer office hours at the SCDSB Education Centre are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to
Thursday, starting the week of July 6. The Education Centre is located at 1170 Highway 26 in Midhurst.
