The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB)’s Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) and partners are hosting the second annual Simcoe and Muskoka Skilled Trades Exposition on May 24. There are two parts to the day – a day session for students and an evening portion open to the public.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Expo will provide local grade 7 and 8 students with the opportunity to experience various trades by participating in a series of hands-on activities and demonstrations. Local employers from the four skilled trades sectors - Construction, Industrial, Motive Power and Service – will facilitate activities and be available to discuss apprenticeship pathways with students.
From 5 to 7 p.m., the public is welcome to attend to speak to employers and industry experts representing over 30 different trades.
“This event will help students discover the challenging and lucrative careers in skilled trades,” says Sarah Kekewich, OYAP Coordinator, SCDSB. “Apprenticeship experts will be on hand to help students navigate their path to a rewarding future, and show parents and the public the many opportunities that are available.”
The Expo takes place at the Elmvale Arena, located at 14 George St. in Elmvale.
