Community a key part of the SCDSB’s strategic prioritiesJune 9, 2017 Category: NewsBack to News Page

In May 2017 the Simcoe County District School Board approved four strategic priorities to guide the work of the board from 2017-2022. One of the four priorities is community. Components of our commitment to community include:

  • trust, accountability and transparency
  • purposeful partnerships
  • lifelong learning
  • celebration of accomplishments

“A commitment to community is integral to the work of our schools,” says Director of Education Steve Blake. “Ensuring that we are a responsible partner – to students, families and our local communities - is essential to the overall success of our students.”

Focusing on community is nothing new for the SCDSB. Developing purposeful partnerships and ensuring that we make evidence-based decisions regarding human and public resources have been instrumental to the board’s successes to date. The SCDSB’s focus on community will also include a renewed commitment to:

  • Facilitating increased opportunities for families and our community partners to be involved in our schools, and for continued learning outside of the school environment
  • Working with municipal and other partners to develop community hubs in schools that are valuable to our students, their families and the communities that they live in
  • Ensuring that our schools and facilities continually improve upon our responsible stewardship of environmental resources
  • Development of the International Student Program, including ensuring that our unique partnership with Georgian College and Lakehead University continues to expose our students to global perspectives and experiences
