​School Year Calendar
To plan ahead for next year, check out the 2017-18 school year calendar. The first day of school is Tuesday, September 5. The first day for all Junior Kindergarten students is Thursday, September 7.  

Report Cards
Elementary school report cards will go home before the last day of school. Secondary school students should check with their school find out when to pick up their report cards (secondary school offices are closed after July 7).  

Summer School
Registration is still available for the SCDSB’s summer school courses. Students in Grades 9 to 12 can reach ahead and earn credits before the upcoming school year, retake courses to improve marks or take additional credits for study and work requirements. Summer school offers students teacher-instructed, face-to-face classes in July and e-learning courses throughout July to early August. Transcript Requests

Public secondary school transcript request forms, information and FAQs are available on the SCDSB website. During the summer when secondary schools are closed (July 7 to August 25), transcripts can be requested by emailing a completed form to transcripts@scdsb.on.ca.   

2017-18 Registration for New Elementary Students
Registrations for new public elementary students not yet registered for next school year will be accepted at the SCDSB’s Education Centre in Midhurst from July 10 to August 25 while school offices are closed. Please call 705-734-6363 x11750 or email studentregistrations@scdsb.on.ca to schedule an appointment to register in person at the Education Centre. Starting August 28, please contact your home school to register.

All registrations for secondary school students will be completed at the school your teen will attend in September. Secondary school offices will be closed starting July 10 and will re-open on August 28. Contact the school directly before July 8 or after August 28 to make arrangements for registration and consultation with the school guidance department.  

New to Canada?
If you have recently arrived in Canada and this is the first school your child will attend in Canada, please contact the SCDSB’s Newcomer Welcome Centre. The Newcomer Welcome Centre is located in Barrie at the Bayfield Mall, 320 Bayfield Street.  

First Rider Program taking place in August to help first time bus riders

The Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium (SCSTC) offers a free First Rider Program for first-time riders, which includes a ride on a school bus. This safety program is provided by the SCSTC, in partnership with school bus operators, to educate students and their families of the rules and responsibilities on and around the school bus. Sessions take place in late August and early September across Simcoe County. Parents/guardians and their children attending any school in Simcoe County may attend any of the sessions. Summer Construction Projects 
Boyne River Public School will open its doors this September in Alliston.  

Barrie North Collegiate is receiving a major addition and is expected to be completed by fall 2017.  

Cameron Street Public School is receiving an addition and renovation. The project is expected be completed by January 2019.  

Elmvale District High School is receiving a major addition and renovation. The project is expected to be completed by September 2019.   

Georgian Bay District Secondary School is being constructed on the site of the former Midland Secondary School playing field. The new building is expected to open in fall 2018.  

Mountain View Elementary School is receiving an addition and renovation and is expected to be completed by September 2018.  

In total, over 100 construction projects are currently, or will be, taking place across Simcoe County schools and facilities. For more information on the construction of new schools and major additions, visit the SCDSB website.

Please note, summer office hours at the Education Centre are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Thursday, starting the week of July 10. The Education Centre is located at 1170 Highway 26 in Midhurst.
