Steve Blake, Director of Education, SCDSB
At a Special Board Meeting on February 8, 2017, the trustees of the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) announced the appointment of Steve Blake as Director of Education and Secretary of the Board, effective March 20, 2017.
Blake started his teaching career in the Durham District School Board where he also served as a department head, vice-principal and principal at a variety of schools. In 2009, he was hired as a Superintendent of Education with the SCDSB where he was responsible for schools as well as the Student Success portfolio.
In 2013, Blake was hired as the Director of the Bluewater District School Board, where he gained valuable experience advancing student achievement initiatives and successfully addressing challenging financial pressures. In that board, he led a comprehensive review of their strategic plan.
Blake holds an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Guelph, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto and a Masters of Education specializing in educational administration and curriculum from the University of Toronto. He lives in Simcoe County with his family and enjoys all the activities the area has to offer.
In its search for a new Director, the Board used an extensive recruitment and consultation process. Staff, parents, and community representatives provided input into the development of a profile outlining the essential characteristics necessary for the leader of a large and vibrant school system.
Steve Blake is the eighth Director of Education in the SCDSB’s 48-year history. As CEO of a school system with more than 100 schools, 7 adult learning centres, over 50,000 students, and more than 6,000 employees, he works with trustees and staff to develop and implement system priorities.
