Trustee Representation Map: Orillia & Ramara
Why do you believe public education is important?
I believe a strong educational foundation is the cornerstone of every student’s future and I believe a strong public education system builds strong communities. 95% of all students in Ontario attend public schools. It is imperative that we strive to meet the needs of every student to inspire them to reach their full and unique potential. Barriers to learning must be eroded and we must provide each student with a solid education in the basics, in learning environments that are safe and supportive. I believe our youth are our future and that I can make a meaningful contribution to enhance and build upon the successes of the SCDSB.
The best thing about the Simcoe County District School Board is –
Our graduation rates are improving and student academic achievement is improving. Our schools are viewed by the public as positive, kind, caring environments. We are working very hard to reduce and eliminate barriers to learning by addressing the different learning styles of students and by enhancing learning opportunities through unique and varied, innovative programs. We have enhanced supports for students through specialty learning programs. We are attempting to address the needs of the whole child including academic, emotional, social and physical well-being.
A note from Jodi Lloyd:
Trustees are the only locally elected representative in the education system. A trustee’s role is to maintain a focus on student achievement and well-being and to participate in making decisions that benefit the entire board district while representing the interests of his or her constituents. Trustees must also communicate the views and decisions of the board back to their constituents. I strongly believe that every student needs a voice to represent them and that it is my role as trustee to ensure that the needs of students are at the forefront of every decision that is made.
