French as a Second Language Programs Find my FI/EFSL school
 

​For the 2016-2017 school year, the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) offers French Immersion (FI) at 12 elementary schools and Extended French as a Second Language (EFSL) at 10 ​elementary schools and at 8 secondary schools.    

For the 2017-2018 school year, the SCDSB will offer FI at 16 elementary schools and EFSL at elementary and secondary schools. All program locations have been finalized with the exception of the FI and EFSL programs at Alliston-area elementary schools. The location of this program is currently under review and will be finalized at the end of February 2017.

Enrolment in this program is limited. While every effort will be made to accommodate all FI applications, available space and staffing will determine how many students can be registered in the program. Applications will be processed in the order they are received electronically.

The application window for French Immersion will be open from 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 23 until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan 25, 2017. If you are unable to apply online and would still like to apply for the program, please contact your school.

French Immersion, Grade 1 entry, 5,820 hours of instruction by Grade 8

Extended French, Grade 5 entry, 2016 last year, 1,940 hours of instruction by the end of Grade 8

Core French, Grade 4 entry, 400 hours of instruction by Grade 8
 

*Students may no longer apply for the EFSL program.

Information nights regarding FI are held in January for the following school year. In January 2017, these evenings will include information about FI in Grades 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 in September 2017.

Transportation

Students attending designated specialized programs (FI/EFSL) in schools outside their regular attendance area are provided with the opportunity for transportation services that are not the same as regular home to school transportation. Read more about transportation for FI and EFSL students.
