  • What is eLearning?

    ​The Simcoe County District School Board recognizes that learners excel when given tools that support their diverse learning styles. eLearning allows students the opportunity to earn Ontario high school credits online – anywhere at a flexible pace. eLearning teachers are certified, experienced and committed to student success by providing a quality digital learning experience.

    eLearning Ontario is a project of the Ministry of Education, that provides eLearning courses and educational resources to participating school boards. This gives school boards new ways to teach Ontario's curriculum and help their students succeed.

  • Why choose eLearning?

    ​Online courses accommodate many learning styles. Online courses engage students with content delivered through innovative tools, that build digital literacy skills and reflect the world students live in. eLearning provides a convenient alternative to the traditional classroom and expands the scope of course offerings available to students. To discuss your eLearning options, make an appointment with your Guidance Counsellor.

  • Are eLearning courses harder or easier than regular classroom courses?

    ​eLearning courses and regular classes are considered equal in terms of course expectations and requirements. However, eLearning courses require strong independent work skills and self-motivation to complete assignments.

  • Can I begin a course at any time?

    ​Most courses are offered in a semester environment similar to regular day school. However, some courses are offered on a continuous intake basis. Check with your Guidance Counsellor for more information.

  • How does a student or parent communicate with the teacher?

    ​eLearning teachers are available to talk to students or parents via email or according to the procedures set by the teacher outlined at the beginning of the course.

  • How often are students required to log in?

    ​You should plan to log in every school day. You will need to spend about the same amount of time it would take to attend an in-school course, plus the time it would take to complete homework and assignments after school.

  • What if I don’t understand a question or have difficulty with an assignment?

    ​Your teacher is available to you within D2L by email, instant messaging or the discussion board. If there is something you are unsure about, contact your teacher.

  • How much technical background is required?

    ​​Students need basic computer skills and familiarity with a word processing program. Students are also expected to know how to send/receive emails, including emails with attached files.

  • What if I have a technical problem?

    ​If you need technical assistance (e.g., trouble logging in, trouble submitting work to the drop-box), you can contact the Desire2Learn Helpdesk at 1-877-325-7778. The helpdesk is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday to Friday, and provides technical support only – not content support or help with assignments.
