Attending an SCDSB School

How do I register my child for school?
During the school year, registration is completed in your home school.

What school will my child attend?
Your child’s home school is based on your residential address. To find out which school attendance area you live in, please call Planning and Enrolment at (705) 734-6363 ext. 11291 or (905) 729-3600 ext. 11291. For county-wide and area maps, please visit our Schools page. You can also find individual attendance area maps for each school by using the School Search tool.

Where can I find the attendance area for my school?
For attendance area maps, please use our School Search tool. Attendance area maps are located within the individual school information.

Can I make a request for my child to attend a school outside of our attendance area?
For information on how to make an out-of-attendance area request, please visit our Schools page and scroll down to the bottom.

Where can I find the School Year Calendars?
School Year Calendars can be found on our School Calendars page. The calendars show the first and last day of school, holidays, March break, secondary evaluation days, professional activity (PA) days and the Kindergarten A and B schedule (for schools not yet offering the full-day every day kindergarten program). There are also separate calendars that show the 5-day cycle of instruction for elementary schools.

I have a complaint/concern/issue relating to my child’s school. Whom should I contact?
At the SCDSB, we believe that open communication strengthens important relationships between families, schools and communities. Our brochure “Communicating Concerns and Appreciation” outlines our process to help address and resolve your concerns as quickly and effectively as possible.

Programming

Where can I find information on Full Day Kindergarten?
For a full listing of schools offering FDK, please visit our Early Learning Program page. You’ll also find information on how the schools were selected for the five-year rollout, how the classes are organized and what to expect.

How do I register my child for Kindergarten? What can we expect?
Our Kindergarten page is full of helpful information! You will find details about how to register, what documents you need for registration, how to help prepare your child for the transition from home to school, and information on child care centres. You can also download our parent information booklet, Welcome to a Wonderful Journey of Learning.

Does the SCDSB offer any Extended French programs?
Yes, Extended French is currently offered in 9 elementary and 8 secondary schools. For more information, visit our Extended French section.

Where can I find information on Driver's Education?
The Driver Education program is offered through the Learning Centres in Alliston, Barrie, Bradford, Collingwood, Midland and Orillia. Additional info and the registration form can be found on the Learning Centre's website by clicking here

Transportation

How do I know if my child is eligible for transportation?
Each school has a board-approved designated walk zone. For more information, please click here, view Policy 2410 – Transportation of Students, or ask your school.

Who will provide transportation for my child if my child is eligible?
Transportation at the SCDSB is provided by the Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium (SCSTC). They can be reached at (705) 733-8965. For more information, please visit their website here.

Can I request a change in my bus stop?
Any request for a change to a stop location or for the addition of a bus stop must be submitted through your school. The SCSTC's Frequently Asked Questions page provides more information on the process. Please note, drivers are NOT authorized to change routes, add stops or reactivate any previously removed stops.

Who decides if school buses are cancelled?
The decision to cancel buses is made by the Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium (SCSTC) and the school bus operators. For more information on the decision-making process, please visit their website. To contact the SCSTC, please call (705) 733-8965.

How will I know if school buses are cancelled?
Bus cancellations will be posted on the Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium's website, www.simcoecountyschoolbus.ca, between 6 - 6:30 a.m. Cancellations will also be announced on local radio stations.

When will my child receive a report card? What will I see on it?

Where can I find more information on provincial assessments?
Our EQAO page has background information on provincial testing, a description of the assessments, and a parent’s guide to EQAO tests. You can also visit the official EQAO website here.

How can I get a copy of my transcript?
To obtain a copy of your high school transcript, contact the Guidance department of the last secondary school you attended. For a directory of schools, including contact information, please see the Secondary Schools Directory on our Schools page. During the summer, please contact the Education Centre at (705) 728-7570 or email webadmin@scdsb.on.ca.

How do I find and apply for jobs with the SCDSB?
All current openings are posted on our Careers section, which includes important information on the application process. Applications are only accepted through Apply to Education. Through Apply to Education, you can sign up for email alerts that notify you when new positions have been posted.

Using SCDSB Facilities

Are SCDSB facilities available for community use?
Yes! The SCDSB encourages the community’s participation in the use of its facilities and resources. SCDSB gyms, fields, auditoriums and classrooms are available for your sports events, concerts, recitals and more.
