Parent Engagement

This guidebook, produced by the Council of Ontario Directors of Education (CODE), provides examples of useful exercises and techniques to help increase parental engagement and support.

This tool kit, also produced by CODE, provides ideas for families to use as they support learning at school and at home.
Parents Reaching Out Grants
Ontario's Parents Reaching Out grants encourage parent engagement at the local, regional and provincial levels. There are two types of grants: School councils can apply for Parents Reaching Out Grants for Schools; Parent organizations, Parent Involvement Committees (PICs), school boards, non-profit organizations and postsecondary institutions can apply for Parents Reaching Out Grants for Regional/Provincial Projects. Effective Parenting Course
Parents as Partners, a program of the Adult and Continuing Education Division of the SCDSB offers Effective Parenting, Cool Solutions, Triple P and many other topical workshop programs for parents during the school year. For more information or to register, please click here.
Child, Youth and Family Services Coalition
The SCDSB is a founding member of the Child, Youth and Family Services Coalition - a countywide alliance of organizations providing services to children, youth and their families in Simcoe County. Technology Use Guidelines
These guidelines define responsibilities for the safe and acceptable use of the computing and information technology facilities and resources in the SCDSB.

Report Cards
Elementary
Elementary school progress reports are sent home in November with a focus on learning skills. Report cards are sent home in February and June. In addition, student/teacher/parent conferences are held in the fall.
Secondary
Secondary school progress reports are provided in October and March just prior to student/teacher/parent conferences, with midterm reports in November and April and final reports prepared in February and July. Non-semestered courses are reported on each school term.
