Below you will find the approved 2011-2012 SCDSB School Year Calendars, which outline important dates through the school year including holidays, March break, secondary evaluation days (exams) and professional activity (PA) days. The calendars listed below are in PDF format.

SCDSB students will start school on Tuesday, September 6, 2011. The last day for elementary students will be Thursday, June 28, 2012 and for secondary students it will be Wednesday, June 27, 2012.

The school year calendar for 2011-2012 provides for 188 instructional days and 6 professional activity days for each of the elementary and secondary panels.

5-Day Cycle of Instruction – 2011-2012 Elementary Calendar

The following 2011-2012 calendars are identical to the regular Elementary/Secondary SCDSB and Modified (Ernest Cumberland) calendars posted above, with the addition of the 5-day instructional cycle designations.  The 5-day instructional cycle means that instead of scheduling class programs on a Monday to Friday timetable, the programs are scheduled on a Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5 sequence.

Please note, the Ministry of Education provides the following guidelines to boards as they develop their calendars:

   •  Students must have a minimum of 188 Instructional Days.
   •  A maximum of six (6) Professional Activity (PA) Days are permitted.
   •  Secondary schools are permitted a maximum of ten (10) Evaluation Days
      (not necessarily placed at the end of the semester).
   •  The school year shall commence on or after the first day of September and end on or
     before the 30th day of June.
