Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) elementary school students will celebrate their environmental accomplishments and find out if their school attained EcoSchool status at this year’s SCDSB Green Team Celebration on June 17.

Students involved in their school’s Green Team have been invited to share their team’s green goals in implementing environmental initiatives within their school, including recycling programs, waste-free lunches, energy conservation programs and school ground greening projects. At the celebration, 18 schools will be recognized for their environmental efforts with an Ontario EcoSchools certification, including two Platinum schools.

The SCDSB was also recently recognized as tenth in the Top Energy Performing Boards in Ontario, a result of analysis of publicly available school board energy use data for the 2012-2013 school year. This program, Sustainable Schools, is administered by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, with technical direction from Enerlife Inc.

The Green Team celebration takes places from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the SCDSB Education Centre, located at 1170 Hwy. 26 in Midhurst.
