Notice of public meeting - French Program ReviewOctober 5, 2017
NewsBack to News Page
The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) has approved a Program Review (PR) of the French as a Second Language (FSL) program currently located at Mundy’s Bay Public School.
A proposed option for this review involves splitting the FSL program, with some grades remaining at Mundy’s Bay Public School and others attending Huron Park Public School. All students in the English program would continue to attend their home school. The review is being conducted to ensure balanced enrolment at our schools.
A public meeting has been scheduled to present potential scenarios and get feedback from the community.
Date: October 10, 2017
Time: 6 p.m.
Location: Georgian Bay District Secondary School, cafeteria
The SCDSB introduced the French Immersion (FI) program, beginning with Grade 1, in September 2013. The FI program is one component of the SCDSB’s French as a Second Language (FSL) program. At that time, the board identified which schools would offer the program to ensure fair access to students from across Simcoe County. In order to maintain this fair access, the program must be reviewed on a regular basis to help balance enrolment and to minimize impacts on home school student populations.
Further information is included in the SCDSB’s 2016-17 Capital Plan, which can be accessed at www.scdsb.on.ca under ‘Board’ and ‘Capital Planning’. Click on the Capital Plan 2016-17 link.
