In June 2017, families in Orillia were provided with another option for child care, when the Orillia Central Preschool opened the doors to a new facility at Orchard Park Public School. Funding for the three-room child care facility was provided to the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) by the Government of Ontario.
“Our communities in Simcoe County are growing, and we are fortunate that the Ministry of Education has recognized our need to support our communities with school-based child care facilities,” states SCDSB Chairperson Peter Beacock. “By partnering with child care providers in our schools, we are able to support children and youth in our communities beginning in the early years, through to graduation.”
On Nov. 16, beginning at 10:30 a.m., the SCDSB will celebrate the grand opening of the facility and the community partnerships that make it possible for the board to offer enhanced child care services in Orillia.
“Congratulations to the parents and staff at Orillia Central Preschool on the grand opening of your new facility. This centre will build a solid foundation for local children by giving them access to high-quality child care programs. Thanks to the hard working staff at Orillia Central Preschool for your tireless work to support local families. This facility is part of our commitment to give children the best possible start in life and put them on a path to future success,” said Indira Naidoo-Harris, Minister Responsible for Early Years and Child Care.
Simcoe County District School Board staff, Orillia Central Preschool executives and local dignitaries will be in attendance at the grand opening. Guests will participate in a guided tour of the facility following the formal ceremony.
Orchard Park Public School is located at 24 Calverley Street, Orillia.
