Construction at Elmvale District High School leads to intriguing discoveryFebruary 6, 2018 Category: School EventsBack to News Page

Contractors working on the major addition and renovation at Elmvale District High School (EDHS) recently discovered a time capsule while removing an interior wall of the school building.

On Feb. 7, EDHS will host a capsule opening event to discover what is contained in the box that was uncovered.

“The original school building was constructed in 1953, and major additions were done in 1956 and 1965.” says Peter Beacock, Chairperson of the Board. “The time capsule was located behind a stone dated 1965, but we think it may also contain information from the original building.”

The capsule opening will take place at 2 p.m. in the library. The school is located at 25 Lawson Ave. in Elmvale.

Members of the media are invited to attend. The event will also be livestreamed on Simcoe County District School Board’s Facebook page.

About the EDHS addition and renovation
The $11.3 million construction project at EDHS includes a new entranceway, five new classrooms, a new double gymnasium and cafeteria, and renovations to existing spaces. Community components include a proposed additional building on the property for a community fitness space, and the gymnasium and cafeteria designed with community use in mind. EDHS will become a grade 7 to 12 school in September 2019.
