As part of Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week, parenting and relationship expert Dr. Karyn Gordon will speak at two local Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) schools on Nov. 22. In the morning, the session takes place at Alcona Glen Elementary School at 9:30 a.m., and in the afternoon at Cookstown Central Public School at 2:15 p.m.
Topics discussed with students include healthy friendships, how students can deal with differences and conflict effectively, and inclusivity. Dr. Gordon will also present “Great Friend Awards” to students who have been nominated by their peers and teachers.
Dr. Gordon is the founder of dk Leadership and is also a consultant, best-selling author and motivational speaker on understanding and inspiring today’s youth.
Ontario has designated the week beginning on the third Sunday of November as Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week to help promote safe schools and a positive learning environment. During Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week – November 17-23, 2013 – Ontario students, school staff and parents are encouraged to learn more about bullying and its effect on student learning and well-being.
