Labour Updates

SCDSB Labour Situation Updates will be issued and posted to www.scdsb.on.ca as required.

June 27, 2016

In 2015 the Ontario government introduced a two-tier collective bargaining process for school boards and their staff. It involves central (provincial) and local bargaining processes for staff groups, including teachers and support staff. Central agreements with all groups were reached earlier this year.

In June the ETFO Designated Early Childhood Educators (DECEs) and the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) reached a tentative agreement. On June 23, 2016 the DECEs ratified that agreement. The SCDSB is expected to ratify at their next Board meeting in August 2016.

All groups involved in the new process have now reached local agreements with the SCDSB.

“We respect all of our staff members and value their work. We are pleased we were able to achieve fair, negotiated settlements with our employee groups before the end of the school year,” says Janis Medysky, SCDSB Associate Director and Superintendent of Human Resources. “We have developed and maintained strong working relationships with our union partners and hope to continue to build those relationships to make our system stronger.”

Unionized groups that have reached agreements under the two-tier system are:
  • CUPE (maintenance workers and custodians)
  • ETFO Contract Teachers (permanent elementary teachers)
  • ETFO Designated Early Childhood Educators (DECEs)
  • ETFO Occasional Teachers (elementary occasional teachers)
  • OPSEU (educational assistants and secretarial support staff)
  • OSSTF Continuing Education Instructors
  • OSSTF Contract Teachers (permanent secondary teachers)
  • OSSTF Occasional Teachers (secondary occasional teachers)
