Join the SCDSB for Feelin' Good February

The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB), in partnership with the SCDSB Parent Involvement Committee (PIC), invites members of our community to join us for Feelin’ Good February. This weekly virtual workshop series is available free to families of SCDSB students. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with SCDSB staff and community partners to learn how they can foster positive mental health and well-being for themselves and others.

Offered each Thursday in February from 6 to 7 p.m., the sessions will focus on well-being, digital citizenship and online safety, yoga and music. Read the detailed session descriptions below, then mark your calendar and get ready to log in via Zoom each Thursday in February.

Participants will also have the chance to win a prize pack from a local business! Each week, share about the session using #FeelinGoodSCDSB on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, and you could win! Posts must be made public to be entered.

Self-care for parents and guardians: tips to help you do the best you can

Feb. 4, 6 to 7 p.m.

Taking care of yourself is a necessary step but sometimes hard to do. The COVID-19 pandemic and associated challenges we have all been facing can make prioritizing self-care even more difficult. This session will focus on tips and strategies to help support self-care and compassion, so you can do the best you can to care for your child(ren) and family.

Digital citizenship and Internet safety for parents/guardians

Feb. 11, 6 to 7 p.m.

Shawn Evans, Provincial Constable with the Nottawasaga OPP Detachment’s Community Mobilization and Engagement Unit, will discuss parent perspectives on their children’s technology use as well as issues surrounding digital citizenship and privacy. He will provide helpful tips and ideas for parents and families on how to understand where their children may be vulnerable, and how they can help. Participants will be able to ask questions via a moderated text chat.

SCDSB family yoga night with BLiSS Ann Green Yoga

Feb. 18, 6 to 7 p.m.

In this family yoga session, we will focus on physical well-being and mindfulness. This session is designed for all levels of participants whether new to yoga or experienced. No equipment is required.

Feb. 25, 6 to 7 p.m.

Now more than ever, we see musicians engaging and connecting with us virtually, providing us with enjoyment and a sense of unity. In this session, you will learn how and why music makes us feel better and how it is an important tool for mental health and well-being. Students and staff from across Simcoe County will perform for you using our SCDSB-purchased instruments. The evening will end with an opportunity for you to participate in a sing or play along!
