In late August, Georgian Bay District Secondary School (GBDSS) graduate Olivia Beausoleil was awarded the RBC Future Launch Scholarship for Indigenous Youth for 2021. This national scholarship is awarded to 20 students each year, supporting their educational and other living expenses.

Throughout her time at GBDSS, Beausoleil maintained an Honours Distinction while also participating fully in student life and her community. An elite basketball player, she was a member of the Link Crew and participated in badminton, track and field, flag football and CrossFit at school and volunteered as a youth leader at the Boys and Girls Club.

Beausoleil is continuing her studies at McMaster University in the Kinesiology program.

The RBC Future Launch Scholarship for Indigenous Youth was first awarded in 1992, and has been adjudicated by a panel of Indigenous community leaders each year ever since. The scholarship is now supported by RBC Future Launch, a program dedicated to empowering Canadian youth for the jobs of tomorrow.
