Report from the Student Trustees
Student Trustee Nasir provided an update on behalf of the student trustees. Student Trustee Nasir reported that the Student Senate meeting took place virtually and noted that Jessica Kukac, Environment and Sustainability Coordinator for the SCDSB, joined the Student Senate meeting to discuss sustainability and environmental initiatives across the SCDSB.
Report from the Closed Session of the Board in Committee of the Whole
The Board ratified the following recommendations taken in the Closed Session meeting of the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, April 27, 2022:
- That the Board approve the renewal of the eight lease agreements for Simcoe Shores Secondary School and the Adult and Continuing Education Learning Centres, as set out in Report No. CL-BF-D-1, Lease Renewals, dated April 6, 2022.
D-4-a Business and Facilities
The Board approved the following motions:
- That the Board approve the schools closed to new out-of-attendance-area students for the 2022-2023 school year, as set out in Report No. BF-D-1, 2022-2023 Accommodation Plan, dated April 6, 2022.
- That the Board approve the pursuit of facility partnership opportunities for the capital projects under consideration, as set out in Report No. BF-D-1, 2022-2023 Accommodation Plan, dated April 6, 2022.
- That the Board approve the 2022-2023 Accommodation Plan, as set out in APPENDIX A of Report No. BF-D-1, 2022-2023 Accommodation Plan, dated April 6, 2022.
- That the Board approve the revisions to Policy 4320 – Fundraising, as set out in APPENDIX C of Report No. BF-D-2, Revisions to Policy 4320 – Fundraising, dated April 6, 2022.
- That the Board approve the amendments to Trust Declarations, as set out in APPENDIX A of Report No. BF-D-3, Amendments to Trust Declarations for Scholarship Funds Held in Trust, dated April 6, 2022.

The Board approved the following motions:
- That the Board approve the new Policy 4120 – Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) for Mature Students, as set out in APPENDIX A of Report No. PRO-D-1, New Policy 4120 – Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) for Mature Students, dated April 13, 2022.
- That the Board approve the revisions to Policy 4245 – Emergency Response Procedures, as set out in APPENDIX C of Report No. PRO-D-2, Revisions to Policy 4245 – Emergency Response Procedures, dated April 13, 2022.
D-5-a Appointment to the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) – Director and Alternate Director for the 2022-2023 School Year
The Board approved the following motion:
- That the Board appoint Trustee Jodi Lloyd as the representative to serve as a director on the OPSBA Board of Directors, and appoint Trustee Tanya Snell to serve as an alternate director from the period of April 28, 2022 to November 14, 2022, as set out in Report No. D-5-a, Appointment to the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) – Director and Alternate Director for the 2022-2023 School Year, dated April 27, 2022.

Questions and Proposals from Trustees
Trustee O’Brien noted that he has received some emails from residents of Jonathan Court in Barrie regarding their concerns about loitering and littering in the area, and that the local school has taken actions as part of their commitment to the community to help resolve the concerns. Trustee O’Brien requested that Superintendent Scime outline the actions school staff and students have taken in response to these concerns.

John Dance, Director of Education, introduced Lisa Sander as the recently appointed Executive Assistant to the Director of Education.
Michael Giffen, Superintendent of Education, provided an update regarding the SCDSB Sustainability Advisory Committee.
Dean Maltby, Superintendent of Education, provided an update regarding the SCDSB Equity Advisory Committee, graduation coaches, Human Rights and Equity Office, partnerships and the ongoing professional development for all staff focused in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion.
