This update provides highlights of the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) Board Meeting held Wednesday, March 22, 2023. Agendas and/or reports considered at this meeting are available at www.scdsb.on.ca.

Report from the Student Trustees

Dean Maltby, Superintendent of Education, on behalf of the Student Trustees introduced the incoming 2023-2024 Student Trustees. The incoming Student Trustees include Ayesha Maryam from Nottawasaga Pines Secondary School, Aalia Majid from Orillia Secondary School and Lucy Duncan from Bear Creek Secondary School.

Delegations

  1. Parents Against Racism Simcoe County – Sarah Peart and Natasha Shakespeare Re: PARSC Demands for SCDSB

    Chairperson Lloyd accepted the delegation for information.

Report from the Closed Session of the Board in Committee of the Whole
The Board ratified the following recommendations taken in the Closed Session meeting of the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, March 22, 2023:

  1. That the Board approve the School/System Administrator Eligibility List as set out in Report No. CL-HR-D-1, School/System Administrator Eligibility List – March 2023, dated March 8, 2023.
  2. That the Board approve the school administrator appointment as set out in Report No. CL-HR-D-1, School Administrator Appointment, dated March 8, 2023.

    Elementary Principal Appointment effective March 23, 2023
    Cathy Millar from Oakley Park PS to Maple Grove PS (Acting)

  3. That the Board approve the school administrator appointment as set out in Report No. CL-B-2-a, School Administrator Appointment, dated March 22, 2023.

    Andrew Hughes from Alcona Glen ES (VP) to Cookstown PS (Acting)

    Trustees received the following transfer:

    Elementary Vice-principal transfer effective March 20, 2023
    Colin Shawyer to Oakley Park PS

D-2-a Notice of Motion from the February 22, 2023 Board Meeting
That the Board approve the following motion:

  1. That the Board approve that all public Trustee Updates be posted as Correspondence under Other Matters in the subsequent Board package and that all public Trustee Updates since the start of the November 2022 trustee term, be posted to the SCDSB public website.

D-4-a Program Standing Committee 
That the Board approve the following motion:

  1. That the Board approve revisions to Policy 4181 – Cheating and Plagiarism, as set out in APPENDIX C of Report No. PRO-D-1, Revisions to Policy 4181 – Cheating and Plagiarism, dated March 8, 2023.

D-4-b Human Resources Standing Committee 
That the Board approve the following motion:

  1. That the Board approve that Policy 3220, Assignment of Administrators to New Schools remain status quo, as set out in APPENDIX A of Report No. HR-D-1, Review of Policy 3220 – Assignment of Administrators to New Schools, dated March 8, 2023.
