Report from the Closed Session of the Board in Committee of the Whole
The Board ratified the following recommendations taken in the closed session meeting of the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024:
- That the Board approve the school administrator appointments as set out in Report No. CL-HR-D-1 School Administrator Appointments, dated Dec. 11, 2024.
- That the Board approve the school administrator appointment as set out in Report No. CL-B-2-a School Administrator Appointment, dated Dec. 18, 2024.
Elementary Principal
Robin Dashnay from Marshview PS to Assistant Superintendent of Education (K-12) (Interim)
- That the Board approve the appointment of Iain McMeekin as Supervisory Officer – Interim Superintendent of Human Resource Services, effective immediately, according to the terms of a personal services contract between Iain McMeekin and the board, as set out in Report No. CL-B-2-b, Appointment of Supervisory Officer – Interim Superintendent of Human Resource Services, dated Dec. 18, 2024.
Consent Agenda
All recommended actions outlined in the Board Meeting Reports were approved by the SCDSB Board of Trustees during public session of the regular meeting of the Board.
D-2-a Notice of Motion from the Nov. 27, 2024 Board Meeting
- That the Board approve that an additional meeting be added for the Safe Schools Committee allowing for five meetings during the 2024-25 school year.
D-5-a Revisions to Policy 2125 – Trustee Code of Conduct
That the Board approve the following motion:
- That the Board approve revisions to Policy 2125 – Trustee Code of Conduct, as set out in APPENDIX B of Report No. D-5-a, Revisions to Policy 2125 – Trustee Code of Conduct, dated Dec. 18, 2024.
D-5-b Revisions to Policy 2140 Electronic Meetings
That the Board approve the following motion:
- That the Board approve revisions to Policy 2140 – Electronic Meetings, as set out in APPENDIX B of Report No. D-5-b, Revisions to Policy 2140 – Electronic Meetings, dated Dec. 18, 2024.
D-5-c Trustee Committee Assignments
That the Board approve the following motion:
- That the Board ratify the recommendations of the Selection Committee, as set out in APPENDIX A of Report No. D-5-c, Trustee Committee Assignments for 2025, dated Dec. 18, 2024.
D-7-a Report of Trustee Attendance January 2024-December 2024
John Dance, Director of Education, provided an overview of the Trustee Attendance report. Director Dance shared that the report will be amended to include a record of trustee attendance at Board and Committee meetings that occurred throughout December, and that the finalized report will be posted on the public website.
D-7-b Director’s Annual Report
John Dance, Director of Education, provided highlights from the Director’s Annual Report to the Community. To review the report and watch the video presentation visit the SCDSB website.
E-5 Reports/Update from Staff
Dawn Stephens, Associate Director, announced the appointment of Dean Maltby to the position of Associate Director effective Jan. 1, 2025, Iain McMeekin to the position of Interim Superintendent of Human Resource Services effective Jan. 1, 2025, and Robin Dashnay to the position of Assistant Superintendent of Education (K-12) effective Jan. 6, 2025.
John Dance, Director of Education, thanked all those involved in planning his retirement celebration and shared his appreciation for those who attended despite the weather.
Dana Powell, Chairperson of the Board, provided best wishes to Director Dance on his retirement and thanked him for his years of dedicated service to the SCDSB.
John Dance, Director of Education, provided final remarks as Director of Education as he prepares for retirement. Director Dance commented on the many educators, leaders, and trustees he has had the pleasure of working with during his career at the SCDSB.
