Accomodations

Guided by the principles of dignity, individualization and inclusion, the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) is committed to creating an equitable and inclusive environment that supports all human rights and accessibility needs for students and staff. The SCDSB recognizes the duty to accommodate, short of undue hardship as per the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

Does requesting an accommodation impact the hiring decision?

No, an accommodation request does not have an impact on the hiring decision. Guided by the principles of dignity, individualization, and inclusion, the SCDSB is committed to fair and equitable hiring practices. As per the OHRC, employers and unions have a legal duty to provide accommodation, short of undue hardship, in a way that respects the dignity of the person adversely affected by a requirement, rule or standard.

Where can I find more information about the SCDSB's accommodation policies?

The SCDSB Accommodation Handbook includes additional information regarding workplace accommodation procedures and the roles and responsibilities of the employee, bargaining agents, and the employer.

Is my accommodation request guaranteed?

Every effort will be made, as per the duty to accommodate in alignment with the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC), short of undue hardship, to meet the applicant or employee’s accommodation request. Each accommodation request by an applicant or employee will be considered individually to determine what changes can be made to facilitate the accommodation.
