Sports round-up: SCDSB student-athletes look to shine in upcoming winter sports championships
Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) schools have a long-standing tradition of excellence in athletics. Student-athletes compete in the Simcoe County Athletic Association (SCAA) during the regular season, and represent the SCDSB and their schools in the Georgian Bay Secondary School Association (GBSSA) and Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) championships.
SCDSB student-athletes and teams are coming into 2025 strong after a successful fall sports season, including 13 GBSSA team championships, an OFSAA AAA basketball championship, and several team and individual OFSAA championships in cross country and golf.
Winter sports are underway, with the following GBSSA championships up for grabs:
- Feb. 11 – Nordic skiing (Hardwood Ski and Bike)
- Feb. 12 – Alpine skiing (Osler Bluff Ski Club)
- Feb. 20 – Girls’ A and AA volleyball
- Feb. 21 – Boys’ A and AA basketball
- Feb. 21 – Junior boys’ AAA basketball
- Feb. 24 - Girls' AAA volleyball
- Feb. 24 – Senior boys’ AAA basketball
- Feb. 25 – Wrestling (Bear Creek SS)
- March 3 – Boys’ and girls’ A/AA hockey (North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Complex)
- March 3/4 – Boys’ and girls’ AAA hockey
- March 4 - Boys' curling (Stroud Curling Club)
