New Oro-Medonte school naming

Help the SCDSB name the new Oro-Medonte public elementary school!
Posted on 03/07/2025

The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) is excited to be opening a new elementary school in Oro-Medonte in the fall of 2025. The new elementary school is located at 739 Horseshoe Valley Road, next to Horseshoe Valley Memorial Park on Line 4 North. With the opening of a new school comes an opportunity for the community to get involved in the naming process.

A school’s identity is important – it is a source of pride for the community and contributes to a positive and inspirational climate and school culture. This is something that can be felt when you walk into the school every day. The identity also influences the school’s image, including its branding, logo, and mascot.

We look forward to engaging the community in the naming process as we continue to build the future of education in Simcoe County.

When sharing your name submissions, we encourage you to consider the environmental setting, the community’s geographic history, and the diversity of the school community.

Significant environmental features that have been identified near the school site within the Township of Oro-Medonte include the Oro Moraine and the Copeland Forest, the largest upland forest south of Algonquin Park. These important environmental features include rolling upland areas along the Horseshoe Valley corridor, vast forest tracks, and healthy wetland areas that support diverse wildlife communities and provide a multitude of recreational activities for residents.

To submit your name suggestion complete the submission form. The submission deadline is Friday, March 28.

The School Naming Committee will review all name submissions. The committee will include parents/guardians, students, SCDSB representatives, a member of the Oro-Medonte municipal council, and a community member. Community members who are interested in joining the School Naming Committee should express their interest by completing the interest form no later than Friday, March 21.

The committee’s recommendations will be presented to the Board of Trustees for final decision at the Regular Meeting of the Board in May.

This initiative links directly to the SCDSB Strategic Priorities in the area of Community.
