Join the SCDSB on March 26 for the Barrie-area Skilled Trades Night
Students, parents/guardians, community members, and employers are invited to the ‘Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) Barrie-area Skilled Trades Night’ on March 26 at Bear Creek Secondary School from 5 to 8 p.m. This event will inform students and their families about the best courses, programs, and pathways to take that will lead to a successful career in the skilled trades.
From 6 to 7 p.m., attendees will enjoy presentations from John McCollum, an Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) consultant and advocate for youth in the skilled trades, and a panel of SCDSB graduates who are now active apprentices.
This trade show-style event will feature over 20 local skilled trades-based employers who will speak with attendees about career pathways in their industry. Skilled Trades Ontario, OYAP, and Georgian College representatives will be available to discuss apprenticeship pathways and showcase several skilled trades-based programs.
There will be a variety of interactive skilled trades activities and displays students and their families can explore, including a collaborative robot from Honda, a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, and an electric vehicle virtual reality experience from Georgian College.
Bear Creek Secondary School is located at 100 Red Oak Dr., Barrie. Doors open at 5 p.m.
