Bilingual debaters compete nationally after winning provincial championships
Posted on 05/05/2025

Two members of the debate team from Barrie North CI competed and placed first in a bilingual debate at the provincial Senior Debate Championships in February. Camryn G. and Logan L., both Grade 10 French Immersion students, are the first Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) students to compete in a bilingual debate at the provincial level.

The motions that were debated at the provincial competition ranged from moral to political topics.

As a result of their first-place finish, the students moved on to compete at the French National Debating Championships in Montreal from April 25 to 27. The competition featured debate teams from Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and British Columbia. The team finished 17th overall, with Logan finishing 11th and Camryn finishing 20th in speaker scores.
