The SCDSB Board Meeting took place on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025.

Motion

  1. That the Board be required to report the total number of violent incidents that have occurred on each school's premise during the school year to ensure greater transparency/accountability to students, staff, parents, and the community.

The above motion was tabled.

Notice of Time Sensitive Motion
The Board approved the following motion:

  1. That the Board approve the letter written by the Simcoe County District School Board SEAC Chairperson to the Minister of Education regarding Bill 33, Supporting Children and Students Act, 2025, as set out in Appendix A of report No. B-2-a, Notice of Time Sensitive Motion from the Nov. 10, 2025, Special Education Advisory Committee Re: Bill 33, Supporting Children and Students Act, 2025.

Reports/Updates from Staff
Dawn Stephens, Director of Education, provided an update noting that she has had the opportunity to visit a number of schools and expressed her appreciation to the many staff and volunteers supporting extracurricular activities and sports. Director Stephens noted that she saw first-hand the efforts of staff and volunteers who provide students with opportunities to make connections and thrive, citing examples such as the East Oro PS Swifty Club, Maple Ridge SS senior football game, Harvest Hills PS breakfast club, and the Banting Memorial HS greenhouse. Director Stephens shared that she has established a Principal’s Advisory Council to consult on the work of the Director’s Performance Appraisal and Strategic Priorities, and a sub-committee focused on elementary math instruction. Director Stephens thanked the Rotary Club of Barrie noting that schools in Barrie celebrated the tenth anniversary of Rotary Book Day on Nov. 18.

Report from the Closed Session of the Board in Committee of the Whole
There were three recommendations arising from the Closed Session meeting of the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025.

The Board approved the following motions:

  1. That the Board, pending Minister of Education approval, declare the existing Banting Memorial High School site and the G.A. Wright Athletic Field surplus for the purpose of disposition to the Town of New Tecumseth in exchange for a new high school site, as set out in Report No. CL-B-2-a, Banting Memorial High School Replacement - Site Acquisition and Disposition, dated Nov. 26, 2025.
  2. That the Board approve that in exchange for the Banting Memorial High School site municipally known as 203 Victoria Street East and the G.A. Wright Athletic Field municipally known as 251 Albert Street East, the board receive approximately 25 acres on the Homestead property as a land swap with no monetary compensation by either party, as set out in Report No. CL-B-2-a, Banting Memorial High School Replacement - Site Acquisition and Disposition, dated Nov. 26, 2025.
  3. That the Board approve that staff and the board’s solicitor be authorized to execute the land transactions per the terms of the purchase, as set out in Report No. CL-B-2-a, Banting Memorial High School Replacement - Site Acquisition and Disposition, dated Nov. 26, 2025.
