Posted on 10/01/2026

Back-to-school also means back to fall sports in the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB)! Elementary student-athletes take part in interschool sports with other SCDSB schools enroute to area and county championships. Secondary student-athletes compete in the Simcoe County Athletic Association (SCAA) during the regular season and represent the SCDSB and their schools in the Georgian Bay Secondary School Association (GBSSA) and Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) championships.

Elementary and secondary schools have started strong, with sports such as basketball, cross country, flag football, golf, football, rugby 7s, soccer, tennis, and volleyball well underway!

Honouring our volunteers
School sports are dependent on the time and efforts of exceptional volunteers within the SCDSB community. School staff, parents/guardians and other family members, and other individuals who are committed to giving students the opportunity to develop skills, learn about teamwork, find a sense of belonging, and represent their school on the field, the ice, the pitch, the court, the trails, and beyond.

Each year, the SCAA recognizes an individual who has contributed outstanding service to sport as a leader, administrator, and/or coach and has contributed to the advancement and promotion of Health and Physical Education efforts and initiatives in the SCDSB with the Kelly Breedon-Elliott Award. The recipient of the 2025-26 award was Val Hargreaves, who recently retired after a teaching career that included coaching football, hockey, track and field, and more at Eastview SS and Maple Ridge SS, while also acting as the GBSSA Regional Representative.

Details regarding upcoming events and full results are available on the SCAA website and/or GBSSA website. Visit the SCDSB website for sports news and updates throughout the 2026-27 school year.
