For all students to achieve success, schools, families and community partners must work collaboratively to increase access to resources, supports and broader learning experiences. The SCDSB offers a wide variety of tutoring programs to support students and their families in accessing needed supports. Tutoring programs offered by the SCDSB are supported by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
School-based tutoring
The SCDSB works in partnership with community partners to deliver joint programming to support student needs. These SCDSB-developed tutoring programs may take place within a classroom and/or after-hours at school. They provide additional opportunities for students to develop community connections and facilitate learning and growth as well as for experiential learning and student mentorship.
Families interested in accessing these joint programs should contact their school directly for more information
Community-based or private tutoring
For some families, accessing or considering support for their child(ren) through a private or community-based tutoring company outside of school may also be an option. The SCDSB has developed a list of approved organizations (see below) that provide direct instruction and tutoring focusing on learning recovery in language and mathematics.
From September 1 to March 31, the SCDSB has funds available to cover costs associated with these tutoring services, when provided by a SCDSB-approved organization. SCDSB families accessing these services are not required to pay the service provider directly.
YMCA of Simcoe Muskoka
The YMCA of Simcoe Muskoka is running a new tutoring program,
Y Achieve, until March 30, 2023. This program is fully funded by the SCDSB.
The YMCA offers the tutoring sessions at five different YMCA facilities across Simcoe county: Barrie, Collingwood, Innisfil, Midland, and Wasaga Beach. It is offered to all SCDSB students from Grades 6 to 12, and students can sign up at the following link:
