EQAO results show the SCDSB making gains in math
Posted on 10/04/2024

On Sept. 26, Ontario’s Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) released the 2023-24 EQAO assessment test results. The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) results showed improvements in Grade 3, 6, and 9 mathematics over the previous year while also closing the gap on the provincial average in Grade 6 mathematics.

The SCDSB has prioritized achievement in mathematics through the system-wide implementation of a Math Achievement Action Plan (MAAP). The MAAP focuses on professional learning for educators, classroom supports for students, and enhanced family initiatives.

“We are pleased to see that the strategies we have implemented as a system are having an impact,” says Kristen Fennell, Superintendent of Education. “We are proud of the efforts of students and staff, and excited to have seen the engagement of families supporting their children at home through the use of the SCDSB’s Math at Home resources.”

EQAO assessments are one piece of information that inform the SCDSB’s work. School and board staff analyze EQAO data together with other assessment, well-being, and engagement data to understand student needs and how we can respond to them.

SCDSB EQAO mathematics results for 2023-24 compared to 2022-23

  • Grade 3 – 60% met or exceeded the provincial standard compared to 59% the previous year
  • Grade 6 – 47% met or exceeded the provincial standard compared to 44% the previous year
  • Grade 9 – 46% met or exceeded the provincial standard compared to 45% the previous year

The SCDSB will continue to focus on supporting students, strengthening core skills, delivering professional development for educators, and providing resources for families to support learning at home.

This initiative links directly to the SCDSB Strategic Priorities in the area of Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
