Local charities are big winners at annual Kempenfelt Cup
Posted on 12/18/2025

The annual Kempenfelt Cup hockey tournament brought school spirit and the spirit of giving back to the Sadlon Arena on Dec. 16 and 17. Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) schools from Barrie and southwest Simcoe County battled on the ice and in the stands to see who would bring home bragging rights this season, while also raising money for a variety of local charities.

At the Kempenfelt Cup – South, Nottawasaga Pines SS brought home the win with shootout victories in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions. In the Kempenfelt Cup – Central, Eastview SS was triumphant in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions.

The big winners are the charities supported by these events! More than $21,500 was raised overall: $2,550 for the Alliston Food Bank and Bradford Helping Hand Food Bank, and $19,000 for Barrie and District Christmas Cheer.

The SCDSB would like to thank the organizers of each tournament – Colin Bowins, vice-principal at Eastview SS and Hayden Adams, teacher at Bradford District HS – as well as all of the staff and students who supported and participated in these events.

This initiative links directly to the SCDSB Strategic Priorities in the areas of Well-being and Community.
