SCDSB seeking volunteers for Accessibility Advisory Committee
Posted on 11/15/2024

The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) is looking for community volunteers interested in serving on the Accessibility Advisory Committee. People with disabilities and members of families of people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. The Accessibility Advisory Committee is a group of volunteers, partners, and SCDSB staff who work together to support the board in removing physical barriers to accessibility in our schools.

Members of the Accessibility Advisory Committee fulfil a variety of activities, including:

  • advising on the preparation, implementation, and effectiveness of the board’s annual accessibility plan;
  • reviewing and advising on accessibility issues relating to identified facilities; and,
  • advising on other accessibility issues within SCDSB schools.

To be eligible, applicants must be a resident of the County of Simcoe and over 18 years of age. Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act 2005, the majority of committee members shall include people with disabilities. The committee meets five times throughout the school year and completes school accessibility audits twice a year.

Interested individuals are invited to apply to be a member of the SCDSB Accessibility Advisory Committee by emailing a letter of interest to Carrie Rumble at [email protected] by Nov. 29, 2024.

Applicants who are shortlisted may be required to attend a short interview conducted by the Recruitment Committee.

This initiative links directly to the SCDSB Strategic Priorities in the areas of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Community.
