The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) is looking for two community members with financial expertise and business knowledge to serve on its Audit Committee for a three-year term, effective spring 2026. The Audit Committee is composed of three Trustees and two independent community members.
The primary role of the Audit Committee is to assist the Board of Trustees in fulfilling its duties related to governance and oversight. The duties of the Audit Committee fall under the following key areas:
- the financial reporting process
- external audit process
- risk management and internal controls
- the board’s compliance with its obligations under legislation
Fundamental to this role is an understanding of how to manage risk in a large, complex organization. Applicants should be knowledgeable in the principles of governance and should appreciate the role of the Committee as being advisory to management and to the board. The SCDSB is seeking a variety of backgrounds and perspectives among committee members and some combination of governance, risk management, financial, or legal background is required.
The Committee meets at least three times per year, plus ad-hoc meetings as required. Training will be provided to all committee members to clarify roles and responsibilities of Audit Committee for the school board sector. The terms of reference for the SCDSB Audit Committee are set out in Ontario Regulation 361/10. Members of the committee are reimbursed for out-of-pocket expenses for travel to meetings and attendance at training sessions at board-approved rates.
To be eligible, applicants must hold an appropriate accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) and not be a staff member or officer of the SCDSB.
Qualified candidates who are interested in serving on the Audit Committee are invited to submit a letter of interest and résumé by 4 p.m. on May 29, 2026, to:
