SCDSB receives capital funding for replacement school and child care spaces in New Tecumseth communities
Posted on 01/27/2022
On Jan. 25, Ontario Minister of Education Stephen Lecce announced that the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) will receive capital funding for a replacement school for Banting Memorial High School (BMHS) in Alliston, as well as for the addition of a child care centre at Tecumseth Beeton Elementary School in Beeton.

“This is incredibly exciting news for the communities of Alliston and Beeton,” says Jodi Lloyd, Chairperson of the Board. “Local Trustee Sarah Beitz has advocated strongly on behalf of her community for these projects. The BMHS replacement has been a priority for our board for a number of years and we are so very pleased to receive these funding announcements today. We are grateful for these continued investments in our students, and look forward to future similar announcements to address our rapid growth. We would also like to acknowledge the exceptional ongoing work of our staff to address our capital planning needs.”

The replacement school for Banting Memorial HS was included as a capital priority due to facility condition at the existing school and continued growth within the community. The total funding approved for the replacement school, which will include a child care centre, is $41.4 million.

The child care addition at Tecumseth Beeton ES was approved for $1.1 million in capital funding. The school does not currently have a child care space.

“Our team continues to put forward strong business cases for schools, additions and expansions. This announcement is great news for the SCDSB, the municipality of New Tecumseth and the communities of Alliston and Beeton, and we look forward to working with municipal staff and community partners on the development of the addition and the replacement school,” says John Dance, Director of Education. “We appreciate that the Government of Ontario understands the important changes occurring in Alliston, Beeton and New Tecumseth.”
