In-person and virtual after-school social skills programs being offered this spring
In April and May, the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) is offering a variety of inclusive, after-school social and recreational programs for students with a developmental profile consistent with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), as well as siblings of children with disabilities or developmental needs. The programs are offered virtually and in person, blending fun, creativity, and collaboration, and using recreation, problem solving, coding, music, and play skills to help students build confidence and strengthen social skills.
Coding and Robotics Club
A five-week program where children with a developmental profile consistent with ASD can build friendships through shared interests in coding, robotics, and technology. This program will run virtually from April to May.
Journey to Success Social Skills Program
A six-week interactive program where children with a developmental profile consistent with ASD learn problem-solving and communication through teamwork-based activities. This program will run virtually from April to May.
Music Social Skills Program
An eight-week, musical journey for children with a developmental profile consistent with ASD. Through rhythm, movement, songs, and instrument play, students learn emotional understanding and meaningful social skills. This program will run in person from April to May.
Recreation Social Skills Program
An eight-week, engaging experience designed to support children with a developmental profile consistent with ASD in building gross motor skills and meaningful social connections. This program will run in person from April to May.
SIBSHOPs Workshops for Siblings of Children with Special Education Needs
A four-week, interactive, in-person experience where siblings of children with disabilities or developmental needs come together to bond, have fun, and share their stories. This program will run in person from April to May.
Parents/guardians are valued partners in every program and may be required to attend some sessions. Families will receive helpful resources to support skill-building at home and at school.
