On April 30, the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) is hosting the 37th Model United Nations (UN) event. Over 150 students representing 10 SCDSB secondary schools are expected to participate in this student-run event. In this fun academic competition, students take on the role of different countries to debate global issues. This year, debate will focus on democratic backsliding, fossil fuel dependence, and human trafficking.
Each student will assume the role of a delegate representing a different country from one of five regions around the world. The delegate will represent and debate the interests, beliefs, and ideals of their respective country in small regional groups. Students will then present their country’s stance on the issues in a general assembly of delegates.
The Model UN runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the SCDSB Education Centre, located at 1170 Highway 26 in Midhurst.
This initiative links directly to the SCDSB Strategic Priorities in the area of Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
