On Jan. 7, students from Elmvale District HS, Georgian Bay District SS, Orillia SS, Stayner CI, and Twin Lakes SS laced up their skates and brought their school spirit to the second annual North Simcoe Cup.
The one-day tournament featured co-ed hockey teams from each school and their fans facing off on the ice and in the stands to see who would take home the bragging rights this year. On the ice, the finals featured a battle of Orillia, with Orillia SS emerging victorious in a shootout win over Twin Lakes SS.
Off the ice, the local charities supported by each school were the big winners, with $7,750 raised for Clearview Food Bank, Georgian Bay Food Network, The Elmvale Food Bank, The Lighthouse, and The Sharing Place, Orillia.
The SCDSB would like to thank Tammy Rodaro, Principal at Twin Lakes SS, who coordinated the event, as well as all the staff and students who supported and participated in the North Simcoe Cup.
This initiative links directly to the SCDSB Strategic Priorities in the areas of Well-being and Community.
