Olympic fever has overtaken much of Canada and the world, and schools throughout the Simcoe County District School Board are using the Games as a tool for learning in different areas of the curriculum.
On Feb. 12, Kindergarten through Grade 8 students at James Keating ES in Penetanguishene were visited by Angela Schmidt-Foster, a four-time Canadian Olympian, local resident, and former Midland Secondary School student who competed in cross-country skiing. Schmidt-Foster shared some of her experiences as an athlete and the importance of goal setting and mental well-being.
Her message was one of resiliency and adaptability. Students left the presentation feeling inspired and encouraged to pursue their dreams.
This initiative links directly to the SCDSB Strategic Priorities in the areas of Well-being, Community and Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
