Report from Student Trustees
Student Trustee Lad provided a report on behalf of the student trustees. Student Trustee Lad shared an update on the work of the Student Trustee Think Tank and noted that the focus of the Think Tank is on student mental health and well-being. Student Trustee Lad reported that student trustees are creating a video series that will address mental health topics and will be shared during Student Senate meetings and with SCDSB schools.

Report from the Closed Session of the Board in Committee of the Whole
The Board ratified the following recommendations taken in the closed session meeting of the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025:

  1.  That the Board approve the school administrator appointments as set out in Report No. CL-HR-D-1, School Administrator Appointments, dated Jan. 15, 2025.

    Elementary Principal appointment 
    Andre Green from External to Marshview PS, effective Feb. 3, 2025

    Secondary Vice-principal appointment
    Ashleigh McPhee from Maple Ridge SS (teacher) to Twin Lakes SS (Acting), effective Feb. 1, 2025

    Secondary Principal appointment 
    Alison Reid from Innisdale SS (VP) to Georgian Bay District SS (Acting), effective Feb. 1, 2025

  2.  That the Board approve the school administrator appointment as set out in Report No. CL-B-2-a, School Administrator Appointment, dated Jan. 29, 2025.

    Secondary Vice-principal appointment
    Jennifer Rennie from Adult & Continuing Education (teacher) to Bradford District HS (Acting), effective Feb. 1, 2025

  3.  Trustees received the following transfers:

    Elementary Vice-principal transfers effective Feb. 1, 2025
    Erik Rath from Terry Fox ES to Chris Hadfield PS
    Pamela VanderVeen from Chris Hadfield PS to Terry Fox ES 

    Secondary Vice-principal transfers effective Feb. 1, 2025
    Michael Fogarty from Twin Lakes SS to Easview SS
    Gina Nicoletti from Eastview SS to Banting Memorial HS
    Marcell Wolf from Banting Memorial HS to Innisdale SS

    Secondary Principal transfers effective Feb. 1, 2025
    Hailey McLean from Georgian Bay District SS to Bear Creek SS
    Jeremy Oxley from Bear Creek SS to Maple Ridge SS

 Consent Agenda
All recommended actions outlined in the Board Meeting Reports were approved by the SCDSB Board of Trustees during public session of the regular meeting of the Board.

D-4-a Business and Facilities 
The Board approved the following motions:

  1.  That the Board approve the proposed elementary attendance areas effective September 2025, and the proposed secondary attendance areas effective September 2026, as set out in Appendices E, F, and G, and Report No. BF-D-1, Attendance Area Review 2024:01a – new Oro-Medonte elementary school, dated Jan. 8, 2025.
  2.  That the Board approve the proposed attendance areas effective September 2025, and the proposed secondary attendance areas effective September 2026, as set out in Appendices E, F, and G, and Report No. BF-D-2, Attendance Area Review 2023:01 – Central Severn and area attendance area review, dated Jan. 8, 2025.

 D-5-a Revisions to Policy 2125 – Trustee Code of Conduct  
The Board approved the following motion:

  1.  That the Board approve revisions to Policy 2125 – Trustee Code of Conduct, as set out in Appendix B of Report No. D-5-a, Revisions to Policy 2125 – Trustee Code of Conduct, dated Jan. 29, 2025.

 D-7-a Exploring School Climate Data: Safe and Welcoming Schools 
Dawn Stephens, Director of Education, provided an overview on the draft questions that are intended to be included in the next SCDSB School Climate Survey. Director Stephens shared that the SCDSB School Climate Survey will be administered in the 2025-26 school year. 

Reports/Updates from Staff
Dawn Stephens, Director of Education, congratulated staff from the Business and Facility Services department for their work which resulted in the approval of funding from the Ministry of Education to proceed with two of the SCDSB’s capital priority submissions.  

Corry Van Nispen, Superintendent of Business and Facility Services, spoke to the status of the new Wasaga Beach secondary school, sharing that the application for pre-consultation has been submitted, the Site Plan Approval is on track, and the building and site designs are at 95 percent complete. Superintendent Van Nispen shared that the purchase of the property for the new southeast Barrie elementary school #2 (Hewitt’s) will close in March 2025, and that building and site designs are 90 percent complete. Superintendent Van Nispen stated that both projects are welcome news for the board as we continue to support the growing student population in Simcoe County.
