This update provides highlights of the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) Special Organizational Meeting held Monday, December 6, 2021. Agendas and/or reports considered at this meeting may be accessed at

John Dance, Director of Education, outlined the process pertaining to the election of chairperson and vice-chairperson.

Election of Chairperson
Trustee Jodi Lloyd, representing Orillia, Ramara and Severn, was acclaimed to the position of chairperson. This will be Trustee Lloyd’s fourth term as chairperson. 

Election of Vice-chairperson
Trustee Robert North, representing Adjala-Tosorontio, Clearview, CFB Borden and Essa was acclaimed to the position of vice-chairperson. This will be Trustee North’s fourth term as vice-chairperson. 

Election of Selection Committee member
Trustee David O’Brien was acclaimed as a member of the Selection Committee. The Selection Committee is made up of three members: the incoming chairperson, incoming vice-chairperson and one other member elected by the Board. The role of the Selection Committee is to gather trustee preferences regarding committee membership, and make recommendations to the Board of Trustees for approval at the regular Board Meeting in December.

Remarks from the Chairperson
Chairperson Jodi Lloyd delivered the Inaugural Address to the Board. Chair Lloyd thanked the trustees for their trust and support in leading the Board through the final year of the term. Chair Lloyd spoke to the challenges of the past 12 months, noting that the SCDSB’s cautious approach has served students and staff well. Chair Lloyd commented on the importance of maintaining the focus on students and their families and supporting one another, as we learn to cope with the current realities of the COVID-19 pandemic. Chair Lloyd noted how truly important school communities are to SCDSB families. Chair Lloyd addressed upcoming priorities including the renewal of the SCDSB Strategic Priorities that will guide the work of the board from 2023 to 2028, capital planning, education development charges and the continued dedicated focus in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion, referencing the upcoming equity audit and hiring of a Human Rights and Equity Advisor.
