In May, 52 Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) students from 10 secondary schools represented the board at the 2026 Skills Ontario Competition. SCDSB competitors won four medals, including two gold, one silver, and one bronze.
Medals were awarded to:
- Peyton M-P., Banting Memorial HS - gold in Auto Painting (teacher-coach Scott Fuller)
- Sam C., Collingwood CI - gold in Auto Service Technology (teacher-coach Kevin Dea)
- Reyna M., Collingwood CI - silver in Restaurant Service (teacher-coach Steve Hoang)
- Maggie R., Innisdale SS - bronze in Workplace Safety (teacher-coach Nathan Teremchuk)
As gold medalists, Peyton and Sam will represent Team Ontario at the Skills Canada National Competition in Toronto on May 28 and 29.
The annual Skills Ontario Competition promotes skilled trades and technology careers to youth by hosting skilled trades competitions for thousands of students from across Ontario in dozens of contest areas. Participating students showcased their talents and competed for the title of best in their trade amongst the province’s most skilled youth.
Participation in the Skills Ontario Competition is made possible through the dedication of technological education teachers, the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), and the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program.
