Twin Lakes SS to host Special Olympics Elementary Sport Festival on Nov. 4
On Nov. 4, Twin Lakes SS will welcome nearly 100 students from local elementary schools to the Special Olympics Elementary Sport Festival. The festival provides students with and without intellectual disabilities an introduction to sports and physical activity, and is designed to be a fun, inclusive entry point to sports.
Students from schools in the Orillia area, including Couchiching Heights PS, Harriett Todd PS, Marchmont PS, Orchard Park PS, Regent Park PS, and Warminster ES will experience different activity stations, all with a focus on building physical literacy, confidence, and teamwork. Activities at this year’s event include adaptive basketball, bocce ball, cornhole, ladder ball, mini golf, and soccer, as well as a sensory station.
The event will run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., beginning with official opening ceremonies.
This initiative links directly to the SCDSB Strategic Priorities in the areas of Well-being, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Community.
