Summer learning opportunities for elementary students in the SCDSB

The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) continues to support student achievement throughout the summer months by providing a range of summer learning programs. The camps will focus on mathematics, STEAM and assistive technology for elementary students.

  • Summer STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) Camp for students who just completed Grade 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8. This camp is intended to strengthen students’ literacy and mathematic skills. Students will participate in daily activities focusing on math and technology such as robotics and coding. It runs weekdays from July 15 to 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the following SCDSB schools:
    • Alliston Union PS
    • Ardagh Bluffs PS
    • Connaught PS
    • Fred C. Cook ES
    • Harriett Todd PS
    • Huron Park PS
    • Terry Fox ES
  • Summer Assistive Technology Camp for students with a diagnosis of Learning Disability who have recently received Special Equipment Amount (SEA) equipment and are in Grades 3 to 8 in June 2019. This camp will reinforce the students’ strengths by offering them assistive technology tools to support their unique learning experiences. It runs weekdays from July 15 to 19 at Terry Fox ES and July 22 to 26 at Ardagh Bluffs PS from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (note that the first day of each week is afternoon only)

Attendees will also experience camp activities including physical education and field trips, giving them opportunities to share experiences that they can read, write and talk about.

Please see your classroom teacher or school principal for further details and registration information. Registration forms are due by June 14.

This initiative links directly to the SCDSB’s Strategic Priorities under the pillars of excellence in teaching and learning and equity, diversity and inclusion.
