SCDSB Update 7– Dec. 2, 2019
This update provides highlights of the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) Special Organizational Meeting held Monday, December 2, 2019. Agendas and/or reports considered at this meeting may be accessed at www.scdsb.on.ca.
Director of Education Steve Blake outlined the process pertaining to the election of chairperson and vice-chairperson.
Election of Chairperson
Trustee Jodi Lloyd, representing Orillia, Ramara and Severn, was acclaimed to the position of chairperson. This will be Trustee Lloyd’s second term as chairperson.
Election of Vice-chairperson
Trustee Robert North, representing Adjala-Tosorontio, Clearview, CFB Borden and Essa was acclaimed to the position of vice-chairperson. This will be Trustee North’s second term as vice-chairperson.
Election of Selection Committee member
Trustee Beth Mouratidis was acclaimed as a member of the Selection Committee. The Selection Committee is made up of three members: the incoming chairperson, vice-chairperson and one other member elected by the Board. The role of the Selection Committee is to gather trustee preferences regarding committee membership, and make recommendations to the Board of Trustees for approval at the regular Board Meeting in December.
Remarks from the Chairperson
Chairperson Jodi Lloyd thanked the Board of Trustees for entrusting her with the role of Chairperson for a second term. Chairperson Lloyd spoke to the importance of the work of the Board and the role of trustee in advocating on behalf of all students to maximize and create the best possible educational opportunities. Chairperson Lloyd noted the focus on the four pillars of the strategic priorities that guide the work and decisions of the board and recognized board staff for their dedication and contribution to the well-being and education of students.
Chairperson Lloyd shared her commitment to provide the leadership needed to continue to move the board forward as a leader in the province, and to work together to ensure the ongoing success of Simcoe County District School Board students.
