SCDSB Update 9 – January 29, 2020
This update provides highlights of the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) Board Meeting held Wednesday, January 29, 2020. Agendas and/or reports considered at this meeting are available at www.scdsb.on.ca.
Trustee Tribute
Trustee Boswell recognized Phyllis Stanley, community member, co-founder of Warm and Cozy and recipient of the Governor General’s Sovereign Medal for Volunteers, for the contributions she has made to our school communities over the years. Trustee Boswell thanked Stanley for providing students in need with clothing, noting the positive impact her efforts have made on the lives of students.

Report from the Closed Session of the Board in Committee of the Whole
The Board ratified the following recommendations taken in the Closed Session meeting of the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, January 29, 2020:
- That the Board approve the Joint Use and Cost Sharing Agreement with the Town of Innisfil presented in APPENDIX A, as set out in Report No. CL-BF-D-1, Joint Use and Cost Sharing Agreement – Town of Innisfil, dated January 8, 2020.
- That the Board approve the school administrator appointment as set out in Report No. CL-B-2-a, School Administrator Appointment, dated January 29, 2020:
Secondary Vice-principal Appointment, effective February 3, 2020
Janice McLeod from Stayner C.I. (Teacher) to Bear Creek S.S.
- Trustees received the following transfers:

D-2-a Notice of Motion from the December 18, 2019 Board Meeting
The Board approved the following motion:
- That the Board receive annually in December, in public session, a summary report of trustee and student trustee attendance at regularly scheduled Board meetings, special meetings, standing committee meetings (Business and Facilities, Human Resources, and Program) and the following mandatory and continuing committee meetings: Accessibility Advisory Committee, Audit Committee, First Nations Education Advisory Committee, Parent Involvement Committee, and Special Education Advisory Committee, and that the summary report of trustee attendance, by trustee, be posted on the board’s website.
D-4-a Business and Facilities
The Board approved the following motion:
- That the Board exempt leased facilities from taxation for municipal and school purposes, effective January 1, 2020, as set out in APPENDIX A of Report No. BF-D-1, Property Tax Exemption, dated January 8, 2020.

Questions and Proposals from Trustees
Trustee O’Brien commented on the positive experience he had judging projects by students from Terry Fox Elementary School. He noted that students were tasked with designing a 3D model of their vision for the downtown Barrie redevelopment project, and congratulated the students for their incredible accomplishments.
Trustee Boswell shared that he attended the OPSBA symposium and noted that it was a great learning opportunity. Trustee Boswell also complimented staff for the work they are doing in the area of mental health and well-being, noting it was Bell Let’s Talk Day.
