Simcoe County District School Board student receives TD scholarship

TD Scholarships for Community Leadership are offered to students who help support change, nurture progress and contribute to making the world a better place. Samantha Scott, a student at Eastview Secondary School, is among one of 20 young Canadians to receive one of these scholarships to support her pursuit of a post-secondary education.

Scott was recognized for her commitment to building and maintaining a supportive space for Indigenous students within her school community. She co-founded the school’s First Nations, Métis and Inuit cultural club, where students could share their experiences and organize events, including a justice walk to raise awareness of Indigenous issues, red dress campaigns to commemorate missing and murdered Indigenous women, and involvement in Indigenous education days in the community. Scott was also active in student government at Eastview.

Applications for the scholarships are narrowed down to a pool of up to 80 finalists who then interview with regional selection panels. At least two recipients are selected from each of the five regions across Canada. The scholarship program recognizes the achievements of youth who are making a societal difference and helps them realize educational goals by providing them with up to $70,000 for post-secondary education tuition and living expenses, along with possible summer employment and mentorship opportunities.
