After school virtual program opportunities available this fall for students with ASD

Social and recreational programs will be offered this fall for Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The programs will be offered virtually, and will focus on using recreation, music and play skills to support social skills development.

Children's Friendship Training
A nine-week, evidence-based social skills intervention for motivated children ages 6 to 12 diagnosed with a Level 1 or Level 2 Autism Spectrum Disorder, who are interested in learning ways to help them make and keep friends. This program will run on Wednesdays from Oct. 14 to Dec. 9.

Music Social Skills Program
A ten-week, multi-component music platform designed to improve emotional understanding and social skills of children ages 5 to 9 diagnosed with a Level 1 or Level 2 Autism Spectrum Disorder. This program will run on Thursdays from Oct. 8 to Dec. 10.

PlayBallKidz Recreation Program
An eight-week, multi-component recreation program designed to improve the gross motor skills and social skills of children ages 5 to 12 diagnosed with a Level 1 or Level 2 Autism Spectrum Disorder. This program will include two sessions and will run from mid-October through the first week of December.

Parents are an important part of the programs and will receive resources and support to help the children develop and practice new skills at home and at school.

Limited spaces are available. Complete the initial application form, available in the program flyer. This does not guarantee enrolment into the program. You may be contacted for an initial telephone interview to assess if the program is appropriate for your child.
