SCDSB announces name of new south Barrie secondary school

The new south Barrie secondary school is scheduled to open in September 2021. At the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) Regular Meeting of the Board on December 16, trustees approved the name for the new school – Maple Ridge Secondary School (MRSS).

Over 500 name submissions from the school community were received. The submissions were reviewed by a School Naming Committee, which provided its top three recommendations to the Board of Trustees for a final decision. The committee was comprised of parents/guardians, students, the school trustee, a member of the Barrie municipal council and one community member.

Students coming from the Hewitt’s Creek PS, Hyde Park PS and Algonquin Ridge ES attendance areas will attend MRSS. The new school will welcome Grade 9 and 10 students beginning next school year.
